On Thursday, 9th November the Year 5 & 6 Football team played their third league game against Dane Royd. The children were feeling very confident after two previous wins and as the whistle blew for kick off, they soon realised they were in for a very challenging game.
Dane Royd had lots of possession, spread the play from left to right and made space to have shots on goal. Our goal keepr had an amazing half in goal producing top drawer save after save. Wave after wave of attacks came our way, but the children held their positions and kept denying Dane Royd.
We managed to counter as Dane Royd pushed forward and we ran into space on the left wing, leaving opposing players behind us. The deflected shot resulted in a powerful shot at goal resulting in the keeper spilling it. We were the quickest to react in the box and finished brilliantly to make it 1-0.
Dane Royd continued to dominate possession and St James did brilliantly to keep their positions and to break down their attacks. Our players worked tirelessly in midfield supporting the attacks and then tracking back to defend. The team were also very cool in defence. We kept the defenders on their toes when we began to counter. Dane Royd did get an equaliser to make it 1-1 after good pressing play from a goal kick.
I am very proud of the children's attitude in today's game. We have come up against a tougher team and held our own. It's great to see the children enjoying themselves and representing the school brilliantly. The Player of the Match was given for their brilliant work rate and confidence on the ball.
Thank you to all the staff and parents who came to support!
