NEVER ENDING STORIES FLYER - DECEMBER 2017

Our recent questionnaire with the children told us how they would like to read more with their families at home. ‘Never Ending Stories’ is a new initiative aimed directly aimed at this. Each half-term, ‘Zap the Wizard’ will make a special appearance at St James’, with his assistant Dusty the Dog, to announce the six winners from our latest round of entries. All families have to do is send an email, or two or three, to neverendingstories@stjamesacademy.co.uk showing their reading time at home. This may just be pictures of families sat reading together, it may be pictures of models they have made – inspired by the book they are reading, it might be a ‘blog’ written together to summarise the book, it may be their child that has written the next chapter or adventure, it may be the family acting out scenes from the book. The list of reading possibilities is endless. From this range of evidence, Mrs Hambleton and Mr Denton will work with the READING AMBASSADORS to choose six award winners and will gather all evidence in a special scrapbook on display in the main entrance.

Have a go at our recommended reading list. These are books specially chosen by school to challenge, deepen thinking, introduce classics, build stamina and above all for their engagement level.Families do not have to go out and buy these books – you can read anything – but special consideration will be given to those trying our challenging reads! The current list can be found below and copies can be viewed, but not borrowed during their listed half-term, in the main entrance of school – where you can also find recommendations on these books. Once the next half-term list appears the previous set of books will then be added to the Wizard of Oz Library and will be open to all families to lend via our community library from 3.15 Monday – Thursday.

Start now – our first round of prize giving will be on Wednesday 17th January at 10.00am.

* Please note that emails and use of the internet should only be with a trusted adult.

Mr Denton and Mrs Hambleton will monitor all emails sent. Be e-safe at all times!
